Yarnell Rising Concert

“Yarnell Rising” concert features original songs

Fundraising concert, Yarnell Rising- Voices from the Ashes, will feature two original songs written by Yarnell resident, Denise Roggio.  The concert will be held at the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 to benefit the rebuilding of Yarnell and to honor the 19 + 1 Granite Mountain Hotshots.

Denise Roggio wrote the song “Blazing Honor” as a tribute to the tragedy that took place in Yarnell with help from her husband, Lou Roggio. Denise also composed a song to celebrate the spirit of Yarnell and the rebuilding of the town, entitled “Yarnell Rising.”

Because the Roggios decided that they wanted to do something to help rebuild Yarnell, the song “Blazing Honor” was made available online for donations to the Yarnell Hill Recovery Group to aid in the rebuilding process…

Yarnell Rising

Denise & Lou Roggio“The news came swiftly and without warning: Yarnell Hill was burning. On a balmy Sunday, June 30, 2013, Denise & Lou Roggio sat on their side patio watching as smoke plummeted from the hills across from their residence. The wind was blowing the smoke and blaze toward Peeples Valley, away from the town of Yarnell. The time was 3:30 pm, and the sun cast an eerie rusty glow on ground….”

“The focus was kind of one-sided on the families that lost the guys,” said Leah Fine, fiancée of Grant McKee. “That’s really hard, but at the same time, we have a whole community that lost their homes and their well-being. They’re experiencing loss too.”

“It’s sort of like the families and the girls are finishing the job that our guys started,” she added.

The women have organized a benefit scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Celtic Crossings, 1951 E. Highway 69, Prescott.

The family-friendly event is set to include live music from Yarnell’s Denise Roggio, and local band Road One South, a beer garden, raffle, and silent auction. Raffle items include cowboy art, custom jewelry from the Artful Eye, and an original painting from Newman Galleries. Scott McKee, father of Hotshot Grant McKee, is set to emcee the event…

Farm Bureau: Raising Yarnell – By Brett Clausen

“On Saturday, September 14, we had the privilege of attending Yarnell’s first groundbreaking ceremony.  This was a monumental first step for the small neighborly town still recovering from the devastating fires that took the lives of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighters and destroyed 129 structures within and surrounding this small hillside community here in Arizona.  As we traveled through this picturesque community, charred boulders and partial foundations lie next to the neighbors’ homes that escaped the devastating fires.

The wildfire ignited by lightning on June 28, 2013 was finally contained on July 10, 2013.  Roughly 9 ½ weeks later, the first permit has been issued to Farm Bureau members and policyholders Roy and Stacy Pizzirusso, to lead the way for this tight knit community to rebuild, one home at a time, raising Yarnell once again.”

“…A sense of hope is rising in Yarnell.  We can rebuild.  Local musician, singer, DJ & entertainer Denise Roggio was there leading the townspeople in singing ‘raising Yarnell from the ashes’ as well as many other well-known classic songs, providing a much needed festive atmosphere, to go along with the great BBQ potluck you would come to expect in the neighborly community of Yarnell.”
