Can We Say SPRING?

Hey, Friends! Can we say, “SPRING?”

It’s definitely feeling like a beautiful season is coming! I’m so relieved. I hate the cold, not to impugn your taste in weather, as I know some of you love winter. But it totally disagrees with me – mind, body and soul. So, I am happy now….

Well, I have just a few announcements for this week. Firstly, we have –

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FEBRUARY BABIES! This Friday, February 19th. Music begins at 5pm. The party usually starts kickin’ at 6pm. We have Entertainment by me, Trivia Questions, dancing, food, friends, fun, happy faces, all finished off with free dessert for our birthday babies. SO, come wish all these wonderful people another joyous year, and take note that there are two more names on this list from last week’s email.

Phillip Snyder Feb. 1st

Walt Eckes Feb. 4th

Wayne Lantrip Feb. 12th

Gerald Montgomery Feb. 16th

Chaz Shane Feb. 21st

Samir Rafeedie Feb. 21st

Cody Wilson Feb. 25th

Chuck Tidey Feb. 28th

Then on Saturday morning, Feb. 20th, don’t forget the Leadership Breakfast at 8:30am, Model Creek School, sponsored and prepared by the Peeples Valley Fire Auxiliary. They rock. We’ll keep them around.

Please contact Marcie Theokas ASAP as they need a head count for food. She can be emailed at: marcie.theokas@azmoves.com

Next up – the beautiful sign that you see on Highway 89 at the site of the town Memorial Park was made by a personal friend of ours in Congress, Rob Smith. Rob and his beauty side-kick, Laura, have lived in the area almost 2 years. They’ve come to the family diner and partied hearty with all of you in the past. He also made an entertainment banner for my fancier gigs, like Weddings and Vegas. Rob now has a Facebook page. Please find it and like it: RS Media Signs. Many of you received an invitation from me on Facebook, so look for that in your notifications. This sign maker is quite talented, very professional and reasonably priced. The YHRG can vouch for that, too!

A friendly reminder: If you’re planning to vote in the Arizona Presidential primary in August, and aren’t registered to vote, take note of this information: Registration for the 2016 primary is due Monday, Feb. 22nd. You may register online. If you need assistance, visit the Yarnell Library. Our post office will also have forms. The Yavapai County Voter Registration website is: http://www.yavapai.us/electionsvr/

Have you considered the Yarnell Memorial Run? It’s coming quickly. Augie’s Restaurant in Prescott and Trilogy in Wickenburg are our Gold Sponsors thus far. Help us thank them by dropping in and saying, “Hi!” Check out the website for details about this year’s run, June 4th, 2016, 5k, 10k and 19k. I’m co-directing the race, and would love to share opportunities for sponsorship, volunteering, etc. with you.

Let me know if you want to participate as a runner, walker, helper or sponsor. Thanks! http://yarnellmemorialrun.com

YARNELL DAZE 2016! Yes! May 14th, all day, all play, all have fun. Most importantly, all of Yarnell, Peeples Valley and Glen Ilah benefit from this awesome time!

Last, but not least, B-Wear Chic Fashion Boutique is prepping for spring – new clothes! Love it…Also, a reminder that owner, Stacy Pizzirusso is open for alterations. Check this out:

Until Next Time,

Stay Healthy and Happy,

Denise

2016: February & Beyond

Hi, Friends!

We’ve had a busy winter, and spring looks like it’ll be every bit as fun! Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your support of my music. So many times I look out over the audience and think to myself, “Wow, I’ve got the best friends on the planet.” You make it very fun for me, as I pray I do the same for you. I’ve been learning some new tunes, based on your requests. Complete with my new Roland piano, we are ready to rock, rock, rock.

Secondly, here’s my schedule for the next couple weeks (only public events are posted!):

February 12, 2016 – Elk’s Lodge 2160, Wickenburg, 5:30pm – 8:30pm. This is family friendly and dinner is served at 5pm.

February 19th, 2016 – THIRD FRIDAY BIRTHDAY NIGHT at the Yarnell Family Diner.

Free Dessert for Birthday Babies, Trivia and dancing!

Happy birthday to:

  • Phillip Snyder Feb. 1st
  • Walt Eckes Feb. 4th
  • Gerald Montgomery Feb. 16th
  • Chaz Shane Feb. 21st
  • Samir Rafeedie Feb. 21st
  • Chuck Tidey Feb. 28th

After these two events, I’m focused on school. Wish me luck as I finish up my Grant Writer’s Certification in Orlando, Florida. (Don’t you feel sorry for me? Haha!) The last part of this course is in person rather than online, with March 2nd being the big writing test. So, I’ve hit the books.

March and April are filled with entertainment. I’ll keep you posted.

Otherwise, we have two major events coming to Yarnell that you need to get in on! Yarnell Daze, May 14th and the Yarnell Memorial Run, June 4th. Both are huge events for our small town.

My event blaster, partner in crime and friend, Leah Tidey provided all the following information as well, with every local event she could find. Check it out!

Have a wonderful week,

Denise

Feb 9 – Movie at the Presbyterian Church, 6pm.  The movie “God Is Not Dead”, coffee, and popcorn are FREE.  More info call 427-0259.

Feb 12 & 13 – HUGE yard sale to benefit Petey’s Playground.  9am-4pm both days (or I guess until they are sold out) at the Muleshoe Animal Clinic.  If you didn’t make the sale last year, well, you are in for a treat.  Just remember not to buy the stuff you donated.  And if you have stuff to donate call Kim Lytle at 928-713-1375.

Feb 12 – Friday night dinner and dancing at the Family Diner 5pm-8pm.  “Strings Attached”, a wonderful blend of Blues, R&B, Rock, and Country.  Friday night special at the Diner is “all you can eat fish and chips.”

Feb 12 – 2nd Friday at the Wickenburg Elks w/ yours truly!

Feb 13 – Community Garden meeting at noon at the Community Center.  It’s time to get ready for Spring planting so come on by and see what the Garden is all about.  You don’t need green thumbs to grow a garden so no worries if you are lacking in that department.

Feb 14 – Happy Valentine’s Day!   At the Lighthouse Bible Church – a free concert featuring Bost Family Traditions. Enjoy a traditional bluegrass folk country Christian musical group. If that isn’t enough, the church is also hosting a free, again free, potluck after the concert.  Hey, if you don’t have to buy concert tickets and a scrumptious meal you’ll have lots of money for flowers for your Valentine.  For more info call 928-232-0679.

Feb 16 – Yarnell Community Center annual meeting and potluck.  Elections to the Board will take place at this meeting.  Like all Boards around town, the Center needs your help so think about volunteering.  Potluck is at 5pm, meeting begins at 5:45.

Feb 17 – Chamber of Commerce meeting at the CC at 5:30pm.  The Chamber has been up to some wonderful things lately and is currently busy with Yarnell Daze planning, thanks to Trish Edwards again this year.  Want to help, come to the meeting and find your best fit.  BTW, I will not be coordinating Buzzard’s Bash this year so you are needed!!

Feb 18 – Paint a Painting evening at the Community Center @ 6:30pm.  Call Jerry Florman at 602-399-1679 or jerryflorman@gmail.com for more info.  Or sign up at the CC.  This is a fundraiser for the CC AND you get to walk away with a fabulous one of a kind painting….yours!

Feb 19 – Birthday Night at the Diner.  Dance to the tunes of Denise Roggio from 5-8pm.  Chow down on fish and chips and test your trivia IQ (I do the questions so you KNOW they aren’t that hard…).  Birthday babies get a free dessert.  Chuck’s birthday is this month and I think he’ll be in town so come celebrate with us.

Feb 20 – Community Leadership Breakfast at 8:30am at Model Creek School.  This is an informative gathering and opportunity to network AND enjoy a FREE breakfast prepared by the Peeples Valley Fire Auxiliary.

Wow, you can just eat your way through this month….

Feb 22 – Dessert Day at the Community Center.  YUM!!   From 11am-12:30 pm enjoy lunch for $6, $5 (if you’re older than me) and ice cream sundaes for $3.

Feb 23 – Yarnell Fire Auxiliary meeting 2pm at the Fire Annex Building.  The Auxiliary is the fun-raising portion of the Fire Department.  You like to have fun right?

Upcoming Fun – Mark your calendars

Mar 14 – Yarnell Memorial Run meeting, 10am at the Fire Annex Building.  Planning for the 5k, 10k, 19k, and fun walk on June 4.   Volunteers are needed in so many ways.  Promise, we won’t make you run, unless you want to and in that case sign up at www.yarnellmemorialrun.com.

Mar 19 – Yarnell Water Improvement Association annual meeting and FREE dinner.  4pm at the Community Center.  You must be a member of the YWIA (that means you get a water bill).  Three BoD seats are up for election this year – one could be you.  Please RSVP no later than March 7 to info@yarnellwater.com or call 928-427-3321.

Apr 2 – 3rd Annual Spring Gourmet Dinner Dance sponsored by the Peeples Valley Fire Auxiliary $15.  Tickets go fast and will NOT be available at the door.  5pm-8pm at Model Creek School.  Live entertainment provided by Denise Roggio. For tickets call Judy Garner 928-899-7355, Pam Kellman 928-273-4413, Marcie Theokas 623-910-0338.

Apr 9 – Trivia Event fundraiser for Petey’s Playground 5pm.  Get your teams together soon and brush up on your trivia – it’s way harder than what I do at the Diner on Birthday Night.  Last two years teams have consisted of 8 people – the smartest you know.  This is a way cool and fun event and the venue always packed so be ready to get your tickets.  More details will follow.

May 14 – Yarnell Daze.  Wahoo!!  This annual event is in full swing and you can help.  Lots of work is involved in pulling this event together – prior to the day, of the day, and cleanup after the day.  Lots of volunteer positions are available and you are needed.  Call Trish Edwards, fabulous event organizer at 928-277-6674.

Miscellaneous Stuff

The Red Cross is planning a smoke detector installation event for our area on March 19.  the Yarnell Fire Auxiliary is involved with planning the event (see what I mean about fun-raiser??)  If you need assistance with your smoke detectors or would like to VOLUNTEER  call 427-6578.

Huge, huge sale at BWear Chic Boutique.  Till the end of February Stacy has some GREAT deals going on.  And yes, our beloved Stacy is staying in Yarnell and will keep her fabulous shop open and continue to dress all of Yarnell single handedly.  She’s got some new “jeggings” which are adorably cute – jean leggings.

2016: Ready, Set, Go!

What a wonderful New Year it will be…what can go wrong, after all, when we have such a cohesive community – one that stands together, falls together and rises together. Let’s lock arms to make a great January 2016. Keep reading for all the events you can enjoy, share and support.

On a personal nadelynote, I am blessed to have another granddaughter, Adelyn Erica Rabago, born on December 20th! She’s a beauty, of course. She has my genes! HAHAHA. Is it my imagination, or does she have “piano fingers”?

I must have been a good girl in 2015. Santa Lou bought me a new digital piano – my dream piano: a Roland FP-80. This instrument does everything but clean up the dinner dishes, although I think I could train it to do those too! I’ve been playing it for hours every night, getting to know its array of functions. Can’t wait to show it off to you….

MUSIC AND FESTIVITIES:

  1. Friday, January 8th, Elks Lodge 2160 Wickenburg – I’ll bring on the tunes, they’ll cook a great feast, and this place likes to dance. Come join us from 5:30 – 8:30pm! OR
  2. Friday, January 8th, Yarnell Family Diner – Walt Eckes can’t make it this week, so you’ll be entertained by Delbert Long, AWESOME guitarist. The locals are very familiar with Delbert; check him out while you enjoy dinner, 5pm-8pm.
  3. Friday, January 15th, Third Friday Birthday Night! Our January babies are: (INSERT BIRTHDAYS). I will be away on a conference for the Fire District, so Manzanita Road’s Duo from Prescott will be your Birthday Bash Entertainment! 5pm-8pm, and birthday babies get free dessert. Trivia Game just for fun, provided by Leah Tidey. This is always a fun night.

Carolyn Sands – Jan 2
Diane Tackett – Jan 3
Cliff Dupuy – Jan 10
Barb Schlegel – Jan 17
Mary Skalkoyannis – Jan 24
Rowle Simmons – Yavapai County Board of Supervisors

NOTE: Saturday January 16th… Mike Manone of Yarnell Homes will be having a BB & Pot Luck with bonfire and a drumming. Starts at 5 PM.

FYI, I have been hired a lot lately for private parties – FUN! I’m about to perform for the second time at Simpson Ranch, next Wednesday. I wish I could invite you all; however it’s a private RV Club. But, keep me in mind for private parties, weddings, house parties, etc….I like small intimate settings just as much as the bigger and rowdy ones.

COMMUNITY EVENTS:

  1. Tuesday, January 12th – EMT Classes begin at the Yarnell Fire District Training Center. These classes provide certification and test prep for the State Requirements and the National Exam. It’s not too late to sign up. Share the info for this 3 month course, and have candidates call 928-427-6578 to sign up.
  2. Wednesday, January 13th at 7pm Acoustic Eidolon Concert at the Yarnell Presbyterian Church. Amazing Duo, world-renowned! Get your tickets in advance: $15 for one, $25 for two. 4. Thursday, January 14th, Community Meeting will be held at 6pm in the Yarnell Community Center. Open to all who want to keep up on community projects, recovery from the fire, the Dollar General, Memorial Park status, etc…

  6. Monday, January 18th – Dessert Day at the Yarnell Community Center from 11am – 12:30pm. This is a fundraiser for the YCC, and you can enjoy Pie or Cake Ala Mode. Yum!
  7. Wednesday, January 20th at 5:30pm is the Monthly Chamber of Commerce Meeting, at the Community Center. The Chamber has several projects in motion. Come on over to the meeting to learn what’s happening and get involved!

I think that’s a great way to end this event blog for now. I sure hope to see you soon.

Where Did November Go?

Hi, Friends:

Where did November go? This year has been unbelievable fast, at least for me!

Yarnell is a pretty busy place, in case you haven’t noticed. Lou and I wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving Day. Try not to eat so much that you have to roll instead of rock!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, the American Legion Post 79 hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner which is open to the public tomorrow on Thursday, November 26th from 12 noon – 4pm. It’s the whole deal – turkey and fixin’s!

Friday, November 27th, Yarnell Diner, 5pm-8pm – Happy Day after Thanksgiving. Yes, you are full from Turkey Day but you must have some dancing in you. Work off those holiday calories dancing to the tunes of Manzanita Road.

Saturday, November 28th, Wickenburg Elks, 5pm – ? I’ll be the entertainment for a Roper Party. There was a scheduling error, and I thought this was last Saturday, but it’s this coming Saturday instead. You are welcome to join us as our guests. Let me know if you’re coming! It’ll be a blast.

Friday, December 4th, Yarnell Family Diner, 5pm-8pm – Yours truly will bring on the music, you bring the bottles and your happy Friday selves.

Saturday, December 5th, Crown King Saloon, 5pm – ? –Join us in Crown King for the Parade of Lights, a visit from Santa, Fire Station Chili Dinner and Music by me. Last year was so fun. Hope you can make it!

A reminder from our social queen, Leah Tidey: And don’t forget – Tai Chi at the Presbyterian Church M/W/Sat at 9am; Yoga 8am on Tue at the Blue Barn.

We’ll give you more to come next week!

Blessings and remember: The giver should never remember; the receiver should never forget.

Denise
